Attackers
Name: Sam Pickup Position: Striker
The Old Pro’s view: Has come a long way since a glaring miss on his debut away at Ilkley in 2009 and after an explosive ‘10/’11 campaign now has his sights set on all-time OHAFC scoring records. Despite suffering from hailing from N Wales, has intergrated seamlessly into the squad and although capable of scoring any type of goal, he retains a fondness for padding his stats from the penalty spot
Name: Paul Kempton Position: Striker
The Old Pro’s view: More of a forward than a striker and less a great goalscorer than a scorer of great goals. Great footballing brain backed up by a good touch for a big man and great fitness for an old one. Loves the game to be played the right way, yet is fanatic about Everton. Languid. Warning – do not play this player left-midfield
Name: Richard Booth Position: Striker
The Old Pro’s view: Strong, pacy & direct, with a nose for goal and an ear to the ground for a night out. A defender’s nightmare who represents the future of OHAFC on the pitch if not in the fashion stakes. Burst onto the scene in October 2010 with a memorable appearance at Preston’s birthday party in Citrus
Name: Mark Lucas Position: Striker
The Old Pro’s view: The fact that he had a full head of hair upon joining tells its own story about how long he has represented the club. Scorer of the only goal in the 2007 Barkston Ash Cup Semi-final, he also scored perhaps one of the all-time great OHAFC goals away at Altofts in 2008. Remains one of the quickest at the club, although even Darren Anderton considers him injury prone. A real caricature in the dressing room
Name: Oliver Seed Position: Striker
The Old Pro’s view: Brings little else to the table besides crisps, hair and goals. Would argue that there is nothing else a club needs. Talismanic goalgetter fired the reserves to a historic promotion in 2010 and now enjoying an Indian Summer, somehow fitter than he has been in a decade. Most nicknames at OHAFC
Name: Adey Shields Position: Striker
The Old Pro’s view: The most “Yorkshire” player at OHAFC, he holds the unique distinction of having played for the first XI at centre forward, centre mid, centre half, and goalkeeper. Often asked to act as an enforcer yet can display a silky touch when required and has a rare knack of riling opponents. Heed has developed in recent years and is now between a 12 and a 13
Name: Sam Brown Position: Striker
The Old Pro’s view: Striker who has held the title of “Best self-declared left foot” at OHAFC for the past 5 seasons. Rebounded admirably from a year of personal turmoil after ally Mark Gilligan eloped to the far East. Always willing to step up when the club calls, his finest moment was masterminding the 2010 promotion camp-aign. Never misses (in training. When the ball’s still)
Name: Tim Curtis Position: Striker
The Old Pro’s view: Endeared himself to the management by putting himself around during pre-season games and chipping in with enough goals to let everyone know that he could be a force to be reckoned with. Loves surprising casual defenders with bone-crunching tackles and has the energy in his young legs that older strikers in the stable can but dream of. Least camp Tim in the club
Name: Will Trew Position: Striker
The Old Pro’s view: Looking to reinforce his resemblance to a young Oli Seed by banging in the goals with the same regularity as the ageing frontman. Already looks to be the stuff of defenders’ nightmares as he never gives up a lost cause, always believes he can beat a taller man in the air, and knows how to “make the most of a challenge” (see Hallam, Andy)
